Murals
Mary McDonald has painted murals throughout Northern California, using the technique of
trompe l'oeil. In addition to murals, Mary also creates decorative paintings on ceilings and
whole rooms too. Her decorative paintings can be found in homes and proffesional offices throughout the Bay Area. A master of the technique of trompe l'oeil, which means
"trick of the eye", Mary transforms two-dimensional paintings into appearing three-dimensional.-
About Mary
After receiving her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1988, Mary McDonald began showing her paintings in San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area beginning with that year’s “Introductions” series put on by the San Francisco Art Dealers’ Association. Her work resides in many collections.
“My painting mostly has to do with observing people in a single situation and moment in time meant to capture some inescapable truth. I’m also interested in surreal and mythological symbols to illustrate a point, but not too finely or obviously. Some mystery or something a bit ‘off’ is desired.”
Since 1997 she has focused mainly on her mural and decorative painting business MCM Painting with many large and small commissions in private homes throughout the extended Bay Area.
